Sustainability at WellFest: Caring for Ourselves, Each Other, and the Planet
At WellFest, wellness isn’t just about what happens on the mat or on stage - it’s about the bigger picture. As Ireland’s largest outdoor Fitness, health and wellness festival, we know we have a responsibility to minimise our environmental impact and continuously look for better, more sustainable ways to bring WellFest to life.
Much like fitness, sustainability is an ongoing journey, not a final destination. Every year, we assess how we operate, measure our impact, and make changes that help protect the planet we all share. Here are some of the ways we’re working to make WellFest a more sustainable festival experience.
A Digital-First Approach
One of the simplest ways to reduce waste is to use less paper - and we’ve embraced that fully.
For attendees, this means:
Using the WellFest app to access timetables, schedules, and festival updates instead of printed programmes
Digital QR code ticket scanning, so there’s no need to print tickets
Behind the scenes, our production teams also operate with a paperless-first system, reducing unnecessary printing wherever possible. It’s more efficient, more flexible, and far better for the environment.
Compostable Packaging & On-Site Composting
We ask all food and drink vendors at WellFest to use compostable packaging, helping to significantly reduce landfill waste. To support this, we provide dedicated compost bins on-site, making it easier for everyone to dispose of waste responsibly.
Industry Leadership in Sustainable Events
WellFest is produced by FUEL, an event management agency that is a proud member of ISLA - the leading sustainability body for the events industry. ISLA works to drive positive environmental change across live events, and FUEL’s commitment is underpinned by a clear Sustainable Events Policy.
You can read more about FUEL’s approach to sustainability HERE.
Measuring Our Impact to Do Better
We work closely with Native Events to monitor the environmental impact of WellFest and identify opportunities for improvement year after year.
Since 2025, we’ve also begun implementing TRACE by ISLA, a definitive event carbon measurement platform. This allows us to gather concrete data on our carbon footprint - so we’re not guessing, but making informed decisions about where we can reduce emissions and operate more responsibly.
Re-Using Structures and Signage
Temporary events can generate a lot of waste if materials are treated as single-use. That’s why at WellFest we re-use our structures and signage year after year, reducing the need for new materials and cutting down on unnecessary waste.
Encouraging Sustainable Travel
Transport is one of the biggest contributors to event-related emissions. We actively encourage attendees to use public transport when travelling to WellFest, helping to reduce congestion, emissions, and the overall environmental impact of the festival.
Free Water Refill Stations
Single-use plastic bottles are a big no - so we provide water refill stations on-site and encourage everyone to bring their own reusable bottles and beverage containers. Staying hydrated and reducing plastic waste? A win-win.
Here’s How You Can Help
Creating a more sustainable WellFest is a shared effort, and small actions make a big difference. Here’s how you can play your part:
Bring your own reusable water bottle and coffee cup
Arrive by public transport where possible
Use the correct bins and avoid contaminating recycling with food or non-recyclable waste
Go paperless by downloading the WellFest app to view timetables and festival info, and use your phone to scan your QR code ticket instead of printing it
Together, we can create a festival that not only feels good - but does good too. Thank you for being part of the WellFest community and for helping us move towards a more sustainable future, one mindful choice at a time.
